YOUTH FOOTBALL TRAINING
Who:
youth football players in Portland area 8th-12th grade
What:
Football skills training- our goal is to increase your
skill, knowledge, confidence, fitness and improve foot
speed, footwork. At the same time, the player will have a
great experience (fun).
When:
Sunday Evenings starting January 8th, 2012
Where:
Benson High School's new football field- Buckman Field near downtown Portland. A convenient location for everyone.
Why:
Football is a highly competitive sport, give yourself an edge by being more skilled than your competition.
Cost:
$25 per session, this is a 1-hour training session followed by a flag football game (in the PortlandFootball.com league), flags and uniforms will be
provided. You must be in the 9th grade or higher to play in this league. 8th graders, your fee will only be $20 because of not being able to play in the 2nd hour (parents- you can
leave your child with us for the 2nd hour if you prefer- they will probably learn from the game and/or toss the ball around during the game).
Referral program:
refer a friend to this program and you will get 2 free sessions.
About the trainer:
Antonio Chandler played 4 sports- excelling in football at Portland State University. Chandler broke the record for most yards in a
game by a wide receiver with 260 yards. Antonio was invited to NFL camps, dressed and played in pre-season games with
the Seahawks but went on to play arena football for 5 years.
About the 1-hour training:
first 10 minutes is players stretching and getting loose, the next 15 minutes is work for speed, agility and quickness. The following 20
minutes is position specific skills. The last 15 minutes is 1-on-1 competitions where the players put what they learned
to work. For the most part, Antonio will be developing defensive backs and receivers and running backs- but really any player who shows up, even lineman will get a good
workout and develop as an athlete. Certainly lateral speed and footwork will get better by being a part of this 2-hour program on Sundays so lineman- feel free to join up.
Offensive and Defensive lineman:
it is not enough nowadays to be big and strong; today-
increased foot speed is vital to both the passing game and
downfield blocking. By participating on turf in drills for
receivers and defensive back, your speed and coordination
will increase. And at times, we will work on lineman
specific technique when we know a pair of lineman will be
participating.
Wide receivers and running backs:
in addition to the foot speed improvements, we will be working with you to run technically sound routes, we will work on
hand position as well as field alignment/awareness.
Defensive backs and linebackers:
Antonio will train you and work with you to 'get in and out' and to back pedal with ease.
Quarterbacks:
techniques developed will be
to lengthen and quicken your drop, keep eyes downfield, get
ball out on time, etc.
